Eclection is a boutique that has evolved from an outdoor venue run by mother and daughter Sue and Khalia Scott in the 1980's, to a charming store in the historic Byward Market Building. It has undergone many changes in the process: name, location, focus and is now everything that you'd expect from a distillation of over twenty years of fashion experience.
The proprietor Sue Scott, is also the main hat designer of Eclection and can still be found behind the counter when not in her studio.
Over the years, Eclection has served as an incubator for emerging artists, designers and craftpersons, many of whom have been with the business since its inception.
Newer creators, also come and go, keeping Eclection's merchandise true to its name with a mixture of the cutting edge and the classic side by side.
Says owner Sue Scott: "It has been my pleasure to see designers grow and expand their craft through exposure and feedback from customers, staff and other artists."
Eclection has always had the most remarkable staff of students, artists, scholars and market characters. Their knowledge of, and pride in the store's wares makes them the perfect source for the customer in need of help. Morganna Leblanc, Eclection manager and working artist herself, is the art director responsible for the vibrant look of the store.
Says customer Shelley Matthews: "Eclection is like your best friend with the biggest best closet ever, every trip is like a session of dress up for grownups."
